SpeedRunners 2 Local & Practice
Bots, couch friends, and tutorials — learn without ranked chat pressure.
Not every session needs ranked sweat. Local & Practice covers bot races, couch co-op with friends, and repeating tutorials — the training room Fair Play Labs expects you to use before jumping into 4- and 8-player online or 64-player Tournament Mode. The Steam demo supports local multiplayer and tutorials today; full release expands libraries but keeps the same practice logic.
Bot practice
Bots let you drill Controls, Movement & Grapple, and Items without human chaos. Set goals: ten clean grapple releases, five trap placements, one no-item speed lap. Track in Practice planner.
Couch co-op nights
Up to eight players share one screen — franchise tradition. Assign readable characters from Demo Cast or Characters Hub. Walk newcomers through How to Play before enabling items.
Tutorial replay
Basic and advanced tutorials ship in the demo. Re-run advanced sections when Advanced Tech feels fuzzy. Tutorials beat YouTube for input timing — though our guides add context videos where noted.
Practice → ranked pipeline
- Tutorial completion
- Three bot maps from Demo Maps
- One item-focused bot session
- One demo ranked match
- Review death causes via Stay On-Screen
Local practice for tournament prep
Simulate pressure with friends — agree winner stays, loser swaps controller. Mimics bracket nerves without 63 strangers. Add Offensive Items only after everyone clears movement checks.
Platform notes
Couch play shines on Switch and Xbox living rooms; PC supports USB controllers for the same layouts — see Controller Layout and Platforms.
When to leave practice
If bot wins feel automatic and tutorials bore you, ranked demo awaits (Demo Guide). If ranked tilts you, return here — ego recovery is part of improvement.

Local & Practice is where friendships survive before tournament brackets test them.
Bot difficulty progression
Start with movement-only bot races — no items, no boost unless tutorial requires. Add Offensive Items only after ten clean laps on Demo Maps. Add ranked demo only after item drills feel boring. Skipping steps produces players who queue online without camera discipline from Stay On-Screen.
Couch co-op teaching script
Host reads How to Play aloud for five minutes, then runs one bot race together on the same controllers layout from Controller Layout. Swap runners from Demo Cast each race so everyone learns tracking. Enable voice chat after first clean lap — not before.
Practice session templates
20-minute warm-up: Tutorials + five wall jumps + five grapples.
40-minute skill block: Three bot maps rotating movement, items, full race.
60-minute party block: Couch co-op, items off, silly runners, then one serious rematch.
Log template results in Practice planner.
When bots lie to you
Bots teach inputs and map lines but not human mind games. Transition to ranked demo from Demo Guide once bot wins feel automatic. Return to bots after tilt — ego recovery is valid training.
Launch-day practice role
Even after September 3, 2026 full release, keep one weekly bot session before Tournament Mode — confirms patch changes did not break your Controls or map muscle memory.
Demo offline features today
Current Steam demo coverage includes offline matches, practice modes, tutorials, and couch co-op alongside online ranked — not a online-only slice. Use offline sessions to learn all six demo maps and rotate eight characters from Demo Cast before text chat and emotes distract you in public Ranked Mode queues. Offline practice also supports emotes and text chat between races when you eventually queue online — use bots first so social features do not replace movement homework.
